About the project

Domana is a event manager app built for students, filled with features such as a home page with upcoming events, a calendar, a profile page, and the daily digest; a profile log that shows all your upcoming events for the week, both social and academic. With a team of 4, I was able to deeply learn and effectively apply my skills to a full UX/UI prototyping pipeline. Assigned as the lead researcher, I developed skills such as team coordination, effective communication, teamwork, research, and user-testing.

RESEARCH

Before even the initial designs and fidelities of Domana, lots of prior research was made. User interviews, personas, user flows, and affinity diagrams were done to understand our users, and to be able to effectively develop app features and design choices that reflect user intentions. Ideation was a major process of our pipeline, and I was given the key role of making sure all processes of research was included and written effectively in the documentation.

CHALLENGES

One of the biggest challenges faced during our ideation of our app is deciding what specific features we would include. We accumulated lots of user research at this point, but it was crucial that we found new ways of connecting existing ideas, so that the app could be unique from its predecessors.

Hence, with our goal of creating an app that encouraged work-life balance, we innovated a brand new feature for event planning: the daily digest.

The daily digest serves as a mood tracker that tracks the users everyday plans, and gives a "mood" rating based on their availability. It also offers unique weekly challenges for the user, based on the goals the user set on their profile.

CONCLUSION

Domana was my first project practicing the full UX design pipeline. It took many weeks before even reaching the initial prototyping stages, and having went through many different ideation and research phases made me understand deeper exactly how a product/service is made through the entire production cycle.

Working along with a team also greatly proved many challenges, especially for a large project like this, and through it I was able to enhance my communication skills and planning capabilities to better adapt to the collaborative environment.
